Are you eager to learn guitar but unsure of which path to take? With the rise of technology in the 21st century, not only online guitar lessons but online lessons for any instrument or anything else have become quite popular in the world.
With this being said, traditional in-person lessons still hold their ground, with quite a few noticeable advantages over online lessons.
Do you know which one should you choose? The comfort of online guitar lessons or the intimate experience of real-life lessons? If you’re not quite sure, don’t worry because today we are going to discuss all the pros and cons of each option to help you decide which is best for you.
Online Guitar Lessons
Let’s start with the trending option, online guitar lessons. You can either have online lessons with a teacher or have online lessons through pre-made or recorded resources.
Some key benefits of online lessons are the flexibility, comfort, and freedom that come. Keep on reading to find out more about the benefits and see some of the downsides to online guitar lessons.
Pros
There are several advantages to online lessons. Firstly, convenience is a factor we can’t overlook.
With online lessons, you have the freedom to learn from anywhere, mostly at any time! Whether you’re a busy professional or a student with a packed schedule, online lessons give you location and time freedom, so that you’re able to pursue your passions without having to give up time dedicated to other areas of your life.
Additionally, with pre-recorded online lessons there is high flexibility. You can learn at your own pace, replay lessons as many times as you need, and even skip ahead if you feel confident. This level of control over your learning experience is invaluable.
Cons
With all that in mind, online guitar lessons also have their drawbacks. The biggest disadvantage of online lessons is the lack of having an instructor with you in real life, which can provide a higher level of emotional detail and connection when learning.
Some students also experience difficulty with online lessons due to internet problems, something we all hate for sure!
In-Person Guitar Lessons
Moving on, in-person guitar lessons have been around for quite a while but still hold their honor and ground. While the pros and cons may be well known, let’s go over them once more to get everything nice and clear for you.
Pros
In-person lessons offer unique benefits that can greatly enhance your learning journey, potentially much more than online lessons…(especially for beginners!).
One of the most valuable aspects of in-person lessons is the personalized experience, as I mentioned before. With your teacher less than a meter away from you, you’ll receive individual attention and guidance on the “nitty gritty” as we like to say.
The immediate feedback and years of experience which is sitting right in front of you are also very effective. It’s important to be aware that in any field of learning (not necessarily music) having a physical human teaching you usually tends to work much better than looking at a screen, or any other way.
Finally, building a relationship with your teacher throughout the weeks, months, and years, is a unique experience that’s certainly worthwhile – something you can always have with online guitar lessons.
Cons
Sorry to say, but like anything, in-person lessons do come with some downsides too.
Having ongoing scheduled lessons require a higher level of commitment and consistency. That’s not just for the time it takes to go back and forth from your lesson.
I mean the time and commitment you need to put into practice. With this being said for those who have a busy life but love music like I do, as little as 15 minutes a day is fine, it’s the consistency that matters!
And as for the problem of travel, we’ve got you covered! Our lessons come with a choice of either you coming to us, or us coming to you! So if you’re busy but don’t wanna miss out, you’re covered!
Conclusion: Which One Wins?
So, now that you know a little bit about the types of guitar lessons out there, which one do you think is the best? Is it in-person or online guitar lessons?
If you ask me, I’d say real-life lessons are the way to go, if you can suit them into your lifestyle of course! Try your best to make real-life lessons work, but if you can’t, don’t stress!
